Residential Services in Washington D.C.
RESIDENTIAL SERVICES
ARE is one of Washington, DC’s largest group home care providers, and its Residential Services Division comprises five group homes serving youths between the ages of 13 and 21, three funded by the Department of Youth Rehabitative Services and three funded by the Child and Family Services Agency. Three of the residences serve youths who have been abused and/or neglected and three serve youths who have been referred by the juvenile justice system.
 

Youth Services

During the summer months (June through August), ARE, Inc. is contracted by the DC Department of Employment Services (DOES) to provide employment, academic enhancement, work maturity skills and project based learning opportunities to over 400 DC youth, ages 14-20 years. By partnering with several DC High Schools and other community based agencies, ARE provides youth from across the District a meaningful work opportunity, as well as exposure to recreational and cultural activities such as: trips to museums and other places of historical interest. ARE’s Passport to Work program is a unique workforce investment program for in-school youth ages 14 to 20 years old; and for special needs youth up to age 22. The goal is to provide participants academic enrichment; job readiness preparation; and employability skills training. ARE partners with high schools across the city to host after school sessions which focus on specific areas of education and training such as: Business and finance professional development; Hospitality and Tourism; Health Services; and Telecommunications, and computer training.
The Youth Development Services Office of the Associates for Renewal in Education, Inc., provides Out of School youth (ages 16 – 21) with the tools needed to develop a successful career plan. Individual plans are customized to help each youth pursue their goals. Whether it is enhancing job readiness skills and their abilities to get and keep a job; or developing a plan to obtain their GED; pursue a college degree; or a trade school; or connect them to an apprenticeship program, staff is ready to assist young people who desire to achieve their goals. The program operates during the year via an open entry/exit system. To participate, youth must be out of school; DC residents, referred by the DC Department of Employment Services (DOES).
